Fishing |

River
Fishing- With over 500 feet of The Big Thompson River running
through the resort, 2 Eagles’ fishing will delight both expert
and novice fishermen. The stretch of river between the Idlewild Dam
west of the resort and the power plant below has been called the best
two miles of fishing in Colorado. Rainbow and German Brown trout are
the most common fish caught in these waters and the size varies from
little to over 3 lbs. This portion of the river is open to lure and
bait fishing and even though we encourage guests to catch and release
it is common to smell delicious trout cooking on the grills. Worms
and grasshoppers seem to work best in our river but fly fishermen
also do very well using their favorite flies.
Early spring before winter run off begins is usually an excellent
time of the year to fish the Big Thompson but summer and fall can
be great too. Winter can also be an exciting time to fish in Colorado
and fishermen can often be seen in their waders standing in the middle
of the river while there is snow and ice all around. |
| |
Other Fishing-For those guests who prefer to lake
fish or want to try there luck at other types of fishing, there are
many other streams and lakes within a short distance from the resort.
The Idlewild Dam just 3/4 miles above the resort, Horseshoe Reservoir,
Carter Lake, Lon Hagler Reservoir, Pinewood Lakes, and Lake Estes
are just a few to choose from all within a 30 minute drive. Of course
Rocky Mountain National Park also offers a great selection of fishing.

Hiking |
| |
From the Resort-Guests
of 2 Eagles Resort have only to walk out their front doors and up
the hill behind the resort to find excellent hiking with breathtaking
views. Choose the easy, self-guided Foothills Nature Trail or a
challenging climb on the Summit Adventure Trail that can take most
of the day. This is an excellent place to take pets since they are
not welcome on any trails in RMNP. We have several trail maps of
the area and will be happy to share them with you.
In the Park-Rocky
Mountain National Park offers over 350 miles of trails leading to
mountain summits, high mountain lakes, and stunning waterfalls.
These trails also vary in length and difficulty and guests may want
to purchase a trail map or the self-guided tour booklet available
at the visitors centers.
Winter Hiking-Snow
depth in the Colorado Mountains varies by month and year and so
it is difficult to predict if you will be able to hike during your
winter vacation, which is why we offer snowshoes to our guests.
Hike Safely-Hiking in the
Colorado Mountains can be a wonderful experience as long as you
are prepared for it. Here are a few safety tips:
|
| |
- Colorado weather can be very unpredictable at all times of the
year. Dress in layers and pack rain gear.
- Wear comfortable shoes or boots and good outdoor socks.
- Know your limitations and remember that children or bad weather
may slow you down. Gear your pace to the slowest hiker and keep
your party together.
- Plan your hike and tell someone where you are going so that
they will know where to look if you don’t return at a designated
time.
- This is bear country and although black bears are usually shy
and avoid people there a some precautions you should take. Use
extra caution in places where hearing or visibility is limited,
in bushy areas, near streams, where trails round a bend, or on
windy days. Reduce your chances of surprising a bear by making
noise--talk or sing. Make sure children are close to you or within
your sight at all times. Keep dogs on a leash!

Jacuzzi |
| |
Located
in a secluded garden area on it’s own deck, the Jacuzzi helps
complete your already perfect day. Summer guests enjoy a long soak
after a full day of fun and activities. Winter guests love the warming
jets and bubbles as they watch the snow falling through the towering
ponderosa pines.
We ask that you reserve your hour in the Jacuzzi so that other
guests won’t join you as you enjoy the company of your group.
|
| |
Game Room |
| |
Located next to the office, the game room at 2 Eagles has several
games that will keep both kids and adults entertained for hours. Challenge
a friend to a game of fast paced ping-pong or air hockey. Enjoy hours
of fun on one of the two foosball tables and maybe even start a tournament
within your party. |
| |
Horseshoes |
| |
Guests
can spend hours playing horseshoes in our professional size pits which
are located close to the children’s play area so that adults
can play while keeping an eye on the little ones. Plan a family tournament.
|
| |
Campfire Sing-a-Long |
| |
This
great family activity has been a favorite event at the resort for
over 60 years! Every other night we welcome guests to gather at the
patio area located near the river for an evening of singing and sharing
stories with other guests. We often wonder if its the songs or the
s’mores, popcorn and lemonade that actually draws the crowd.
Don’t forget your camera-this is what families vacation memories
are all about.
|
| |
Children’s Play Area |
| |
This
26’X26’ fenced sand-filled play area is sure to delight
your youngsters. Parents can relax by the patio and listen to the
river while children under 110 lbs play safely in the enclosed area.
A wooden fort with a slide, fire pole, rope ladder, three swings and
horizontal climbing ladder will keep those little ones happy for hours.

Wildlife Viewing |
| |
2
Eagles Resort rests in the magnificent Big Thompson Canyon, which
is home to many animals you may be lucky enough to see during your
visit. A large herd of big horn sheep live directly across from the
property on Palisade mountain and they can be seen all year long at
anytime of day. You can also see the big horn as you drive up the
canyon if you look up on the cliffs. In the spring, summer and especially
the fall you might get a glimpse of our resident black bears who live
in the mountains nearby. As the pressures of drought and increasing
civilization encroach on their habitat we see more and more of the
bears who are looking for food and coming down to the river to drink.
In
the fall they enjoy the apples that fall from the apple trees on the
property. Our guests have seen fox and an occasional mountain lion
in the last few years as well. You probably won’t see elk until
you get to the park but it is very common to see mule deer close by.
|
| |
Bird Watching |
| |
Many of our guests will tell you that one of their favorite things
about staying at 2 Eagles Resort is the birds. They especially love
to watch the Hummingbirds who are very numerous during the spring
and summer. We help attract birds to the resort with feeders and flowers.
The climate and vegetation seems to draw a huge variety of birds for
our guests to enjoy. Besides Hummingbirds we often see Steller’s
Jays and Gray Jays, Bullock’s Orioles, Western Bluebirds, Northern
Flickers, Downy Woodpeckers, House Finches, Chickadee’s, Tanagers,
Grosbeaks and even an occasional Lazuli Bunting. Bird enthusiasts
who have visited say the numbers and variety of birds they see amaze
them.
Of course we can’t forget the pair of Golden Eagles that
the resort was named for who live on the cliffs of the Palisade
Mountain across from the resort. They are often spotted soaring
high overhead as they hunt for food in the surrounding forests.
Owls also live in the trees close to the resort and an early morning
visitor to the Jacuzzi may get the added bonus of spotting these
winged residents as they search for their breakfast.

| |
Games and Movies |
| |
Sometimes guests just want to spend a quiet evening in their cabin.
We offer a large selection of board games and movies and there is
usually movie style popcorn available in the game room for guests
to enjoy. |
